A friend of mine has started his son hunting 3 years ago at age 6 and has had the opportunity to fill a couple of tags on youth hunts,BUT....the kids dad made him hold off and wait for a "Big Buck"or SHOOTER. so he has wasted those tags waiting, and waiting.not even letting him take any of the does and small bucks that he had a chance to.to me that is something that doesnt seem logical, the boy has just started hunting and has had plenty of chances to shoot his first deer even 2nd and 3rd but was told no he couldnt shoot, the lil guy is 9 now and he is wanting to shoot more now than in the past and seems to be getting tired of hunting, and my friend and i have had many arguments over HIS greed and actions, The boy is just that,a boy who wants to follow in his dads foot prints, but he is definatly getting burned out...my solution is let the kid decide if he/she wants to take an animal and help them through the process of doing so,DONT PUT A SIZE QUALIFICATION ON THEIR FIRST FEW YEARS OF HUNTING,when those few years are up and a few deer are under their belts,THEN they can decide if they want to pass or take the animal,..when i was a kid i would see my Dad shoot these big bucks(too me anyway)..and i would always tell him mine was going to be bigger and im not shooting the first one that comes along,well......when the time came for the first one to come along....the doe or buck ,no matter how big was getting a tag on them,if things went right..the best part of hunting to me was being with my Dad,and being one of the guys.......LET A KID BE A KID,and enjoy the hunt, all animals taken by a kid is in a TROPHY CLASS all of their own..Thanks for your time and letting me vent..HAPPY HUNTING TO ALL...Last edited on Tue Jan 27th, 2009 01:55 pm by a_deers_worst_nightmare

shooter bucks are nice, AFTER you have a few seasons under his belt. Let him fill his tags and enjoy the hunt.

| My Paps always said "meat or horns, what you think tastes better?". I wouldn't mind taking a big ole buck but i would rather fill empty holes in my freezer than make holes hangin trophies on my wall.
